On Wednesday, November 15th at 7pm the South Jersey Poets Collective welcomesas the featured reader to World Above Free Poetry Night at Stockton University’s Noyes Arts Garage (2200 Fairmount Ave, Atlantic City, NJ 08401).

The evening starts with the usual Open Mic, where participants read one poem that is less than two minutes long. The break will occur just before 8pm, and participants will return to a free take-home writing prompt, introduced by the host or the prompt’s author. Then, Antoinette Tidjani Alou will read.

Writer, poet, translator, scholar, Antoinette Tidjani Alou is Stockton University’s 2017 International Visiting Writer and a 2017 IWP Fall Resident at the University of Iowa. She teaches literature and directs the Program of Performing Arts at Abdou Moumouni University in Niamey. In addition, she has been the president of the International Society for Oral Literatures of Africa and a collaborator on the “Women Writing Africa” project. Her first work, On m’appelle Nina, retraces the exilic experiences of a woman who leaves Jamaica for France, then Niger. A short story collection, a volume of poetry and a memoir are all forthcoming.
